If you aren’t dressed sensibly, the gameday experience of a lifetime could quickly turn into a miserable outing. The NFL season runs from early August to mid-February, with a wild difference in climate between a 1 pm kickoff in Miami and an 8:20 pm playoff match in snowy Buffalo in the depths of January. 

Take tips from the pros themselves: the Dolphins often choose to wear their white jerseys (typically considered the away uniform for NFL teams) when they’re playing at home so that the opposing team is forced to wear darker colors, soaking up the brunt of the brutal Miami sun. 

Athletic wear like the jerseys you’ll see at an NFL game are generally pretty good on hot days, as the fabric is designed for excellent ventilation, and sweatpants or leggings are a great way to shield yourself from the cold if the temperatures are set to dip. Even though 50 degrees may not seem too cold at face value, standing outside for three hours can get old in a hurry… especially if there’s wind or cloudy skies.
